MARFA
High desert light, Donald Judd’s concrete boxes and a town that rewards doing very little. Three nights, a rental car and no fixed plans. At the Chinati Foundation, Judd’s 100 aluminium works fill two former artillery sheds, with Dan Flavin’s light installations in the barracks next door. Ballroom Marfa shows contemporary art in a converted dance hall, and Prada Marfa stands alone on the highway outside Valentine. At night, the McDonald Observatory has some of the darkest skies in the country.
