Accra’s design and music scene, the Volta region and the forts along the coast. December is busy in the best way; February is calmer. Accra is one of Africa’s most energetic art cities: start at Gallery 1957 and the Nubuke Foundation, and in August the Chale Wote street art festival takes over the old neighbourhood of Jamestown. The castles at Cape Coast and Elmina deserve time and a good guide. Near Kumasi, kente is still woven by hand in Bonwire.
