EGYPT
The Grand Egyptian Museum at Giza finally brings Tutankhamun’s treasures together in one place. Each autumn, Art D’Égypte sets contemporary artists’ work at the foot of the pyramids. We go up the Nile by dahabiya, a sailing boat for a handful of guests, rather than a cruise ship. The painted tombs of the Valley of the Kings and Queens are best at dawn, before the heat and the crowds. In Cairo, the Islamic city and the galleries of Downtown and Zamalek are worth as much time as the monuments.
